First of all you definitely need to be talented. But in general there are four qualifications you need to fit: age, height ( girls minimum 5'8 1/2 / boys minimum 5'11 1/2 ), beeing photogenic and to have a lot of self-discipline. These are only the criteria standards, but of course we do have to decide in each case individually if you have everything what it takes to become a model.
In the media you can often read about incredibly high dream rates for top models. What are the usual rates for models?
model's dayrate always depends on what point of his/her career he/she is at. A new face usually earns aprox. € 500 per day. For editorials, this means foto-productions which are published in well known fashion magazines it is sometimes only half of that. Models who have been in the business for quite a while have dayrates of € 700 to € 3.000, some even up to € 5.000. The Top Models like Elle MacPherson have dayrates of US$ 20.000 - 30.000 sometimes even more. However there are only a few Supermodels worldwide who make this kind of money.
How long does it take for a beginner to gain the necessary experience?
Usually it takes about 12 months until a young talent has a solid base and knows the skills. After that it is all up to the model's own talent, discipline and intention.
Are there also unprofessional agencies, so called "black sheeps" in your business? How can young boys and girls who want to become a model avoid to choose an unprofessional agency?
Unfortunately there are not only respectable and professional agencies in this business. These so called agencies mostly offer classes e.g. "How to become a model", where they teach anybody who pays their expensive fees upfront. These "black sheeps" under all model agencies mostly promise young boys and girls a big international career, if they sign up for their expensive classes. Therefore, in Germany many professional agencies, who were previously certified by the national office of labour in Germany, joined an association named VELMA (Vereinigung der von der Bundesanstalt für Arbeit ehemals lizensierten Fotomodellagenturen). By writing to VELMA you can ask for a memberlist of model agencies, if you enclose a return envelope stamped and addressed to yourself. All members of VELMA match certain high quality criteria and go by the guiding rules of VELMA booking conditions.
Who takes care of the models at Louisa Models?
In our Munich office as well as in our Hamburg office, two seperate teams take care of all the bookings of the male and female models. We also do have our own division for hair & make-up artists and stylists in each office. Last but not least there is also the accounting department, which takes care of all invoices toward the client and effects payments to the model.
